LE GRAND — The East Marshall/GMG wrestling team hosted its home dual tournament on Saturday, and the Mustangs couldn’t quite muster a win against some strong competition.

EM/GMG fell to Class 2A No. 5 Washington (48-22) to start the day, then lost to Independence (69-12), Benton Community (39-24) and Class 2A No. 8 South Tama County (56-11).

Carson Burchland at 120 pounds carried the banner for the Mustangs in their home tournament, as he finished a perfect 4-0 on the day.

Burchland started off by pinning Walker Ikerd from Washington in the second period, then he pinned Thomas Matteson from Independence, also in the second round. After receiving a forfeit win against Benton Community, Burchland finished the day with a 16-0 technical fall victory over Brady Knode from STC.

The Trojans finished 3-0 as a team, with wins over Union Community (42-25), Sigourney (59-12), and the final win against the Mustangs.

2A No. 4 Brady Fritz at 132, No. 4 Tanner Probasco at 138, No. 9 Colton Vest at 145, No. 1 Isaac Judge at 152, and No. 6 Dalton Rosenberg at 182 all went undefeated for STC, though Judge wrestled up a weight at 160. Filling in at 152 was Pedro Rodriguez, who also went 3-0 along with Mario Moncada, who won two matches at heavyweight and one at 220.
