Gill, GMG golf second at Iowa Star Conference

ELMA — The GMG boys’ golf team accounted for three medalist and another top-15 finisher as the Wolverines came away with second place at the Iowa Star Conference Tournament on Wednesday at Maple Heights Golf & Country Club.

GMG finished seven strokes behind Don Bosco in the final team standings, 347-354, with North Tama coming in third at 367.

Don Bosco’s Sloan Barron was meet medalist with his 7-over-par round of 79. All four GMG scoring golfers were juniors, as Kolton Gill was the runner-up with an 83, Aaron Fleming was third at 85, Blaze Krull medaled in sixth with an 88, and Kamrin Chizik took 15th with a 98.

All four of Don Bosco’s scoring golfers finished in the top 10.

North Tama was led by Paden Ketter’s round of 87, good for fourth place, and Skyler Staker also medaled with his 90 for ninth. Ryan Waller lost out on an individual medal on a cardback, placing 11th with a 93, and Orion Hansen rounded out the Redhawks’ scoring with a 97.

The Colo-NESCO/Collins-Maxwell squad sent just two golfers to the conference meet, as Simon McKinney shot a 122 and John Pointer finished with a 137.
