The state’s RBI leader and three of Iowa’s top pitchers will join forces on the ‘Blue’ team for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s All-Star Softball Games on Monday at Waukee High School.

East Marshall senior catcher Madison Farrington, who finished the summer atop the RBI chart and tied for fourth in home runs, will have her hands full handling three more of Iowa’s stingiest pitchers at Monday’s all-star series.

Farrington, a Central College commit, will play for the Blue Team coached by Treynor’s Kara Huisman and Atlantic’s Terry Hinzmann. The Senior All-Star Series starts with a 4 p.m. ballgame between the Red and White teams, followed by the Blue and White at 6 p.m. and Red vs. Blue at 8 p.m.

AGWSR senior pitcher Taryan Barrick is the only other NICL West Division player selected to one of the three 13-member squads, but she wasn’t paired with Farrington.

Lisbon’s Skylar Sadler (24-3, 0.58 ERA), Treynor’s Sydni Huisman (30-3, 0.59) and Durant’s Kamryn Meyer (19-4, 0.52) make up the Blue team’s bullpen for Farrington to work with.

Farrington closed out her season with a .451 batting average, going 51-for-113 with 14 doubles, 15 home runs and an Iowa-best 68 RBIs. She threw out four of 15 attempted base-stealers and made just three errors. During three games at the state tournament, Farrington finished 3-for-10 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Lindsey Culver, who was third in the state with 61 RBIs, is on the Blue team as well. Davenport Assumption leadoff hitter Lea Nelson, named the captain of the Class 3A state all-tournament team, is too.
