MHS boys swat Scarlets

DES MOINES — The Marshalltown boys’ tennis team surrendered just five games to Des Moines East in sweeping the Scarlets 11-0 in Monday’s Iowa Alliance Conference dual.

The Bobcats (7-4) won their season-best third-straight dual meet by the time singles play was completed, as MHS made off with all six wins. All five games claimed by Des Moines East (1-6) came during singles play, as MHS dominated in doubles to the tune of six love-love victories.

Isaac Benscoter, Jacob Thiessen, Tayven Dutton, Caleb Rasmussen, Evan Roush and Collin Jablonski got singles wins for Marshalltown.

In doubles play, Benscoter and Thiessen set the tone with their 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1, and the rest of the Bobcats followed suit. Dale Greene and Jacob Christen paired up to win at No. 2, it was Adam Boone and Carson Snyder at No. 3, Will Swartz and Kyle Smith at No. 4, and Jacob Seberger and Parker Christen at No. 5.

The Bobcats are at home for three of their last four duals, starting with Tuesday’s meet against Des Moines Roosevelt. The Roughriders visit the Marshalltown Court Complex at 4 p.m. today, while Des Moines North comes to town on Thursday.
