All-CIML Iowa for Bobcats’ Thomas

T-R FILE PHOTO - Marshalltown sophomore guard Armonniey Thomas (10) attacks the basket against Mason City during their game Feb. 8 at the Roundhouse.

It was a difficult year for high school basketball in Marshalltown. The Bobcat boys and girls teams were both under .500 on the season and failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs. However, neither team was shut out from the all-CIML Iowa Conference teams released this week.

Marshalltown’s sophomore guard Armmoniey Thomas was named to the CIML Iowa Conference first team, one year after being honorable mention. Thomas averaged 19.3 points per game, shot 39.4 percent from the floor, 32 percent from 3-point range and 68 percent from the free-throw line. Thomas also averaged three assists and 2.2 steals per contest.

Freshman guard Drake Kapayou was on the honorable mention list for the Bobcats with 6.4 points per game while shooting 37.3 percent from 3-point range.

Four players were unanimous first team selections: Jack Auer and Ty Walker of Valley and Tucker DeVries and Payton Sandfort of Waukee.

On the girls’ side, three Bobcats were named honorable mention: seniors Erica Johnson and Madi Finch and sophomore Lily Roberts. This is the third consecutive year Johnson and Finch have been honorable mention. Roberts came on strong at the end of the season and makes her first appearance.
