Stokes receives first-team honor
Despite going through a difficult season in 2019-20, the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team still had two players earn spots on the ICCAC’s all-Region XI teams, which were released Monday.
Sophomore guard Dana Stokes was named a first-team selection for the Tigers (8-22, 0-4) for the second-straight season. In 2019-20 the Chicago native led MCC at 12.2 points per game and shot 45.1 percent from the floor. Stokes averaged more points in fewer minutes per game (24.3) than in 2018-19 (9 points in 27.3 minutes per game). Stokes shot 23.5 percent from 3-point range and 69.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Sophomore wing Laurin Lyons earned honorable mention all-region honors for her play this season. The Grand Junction native averaged 11.1 points this season on 32.4 percent shooting from the floor. She shot 22.6 percent from 3-point range and 65.5 percent from the stripe in 26 minutes per contest. Those numbers went up from 5.8 points in her freshman year.
