Bell honored as cross country official

Tim Bell

The Iowa branch of the National Federation Officials Association was unable to conduct its awards banquet because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the organization still honored Marshalltown’s Tim Bell as one of its 15 recipients of Official of the Year.

Bell, the longtime Marshalltown High School track and cross country coach, was selected as the Official of the Year for boys cross country. Bell serves as the starting official for the Bobcat Invite annually, and in 2017 the school erected a shelter house in his honor at the Marshalltown Community College cross country course where the race is held.

Bell was inducted into the Iowa Association of Track Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 2019. He served as Marshalltown’s athletic director for 13 years and as the boys’ cross country coach for 32 seasons.
