Drake men add Seton Hall transfer

Darnell Brodie

DES MOINES — Darnell Brodie, a 6-foot-10, 265-pound forward has joined the Drake University men’s basketball program, head coach Darian DeVries announced Monday.

Brodie recently completed his sophomore season at Seton Hall.

“We are excited to have Darnell Brodie joining our program,” DeVries said. “Darnell will bring value to our team in rebounding, passing, toughness and ability to score in the paint. Most importantly, our fans will really enjoy watching him. His passion on the court is electric.”

Brodie, a native of Newark, N.J., played in three games last season due to injury and illness and 10 games as a freshman for the Pirates. He was a 2019 Big East All-Academic team selection.

A three-star recruit, Brodie played his high school basketball at Newark East Side and Putnam Science Academy before a prep year at Monteverde Academy in Florida.

“Darnell was a huge part of the success of our prep team during his time at Montverde Academy,” said Monteverde head coach Kevin Boyle, Jr. “He was a dominant force on the interior as a rebounder and defensive stopper and helped lead our program to our first appearance in the National Prep Tournament. I believe he has the ability to use his size, ability to finish around the rim, and desire to compete and win to become a major impact player at Drake University.”

At Monteverde, he averaged 10.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Brodie joins recent signee Bryceson Burns and November signee Jordan Kwiecinski in the Bulldogs’ incoming class for next season.
