Ames pins down MHS in dual meet

The Marshalltown wrestling team won four of 10 contested matches but couldn’t make up for a deficit in bonus points and forfeits as Ames handled the Bobcats, 52-20, in Tuesday’s CIML Iowa Conference dual meet at the Roundhouse.

The visiting Little Cyclones benefitted from three Marshalltown forfeits and took advantage of the opportunity to wrestle by scoring five pins and one major decision.

Marshalltown managed four match wins while collecting one forfeit at the opening weight. Dylano Castellanos at 170 pounds and seventh-ranked Carson Williams at 220 scored the Bobcats’ bonus-point victories, as both got a major decision to lead the way. Luke Hageman at 132 and Gannon Williams at 195 scored minor decisions to account for the rest of Marshalltown’s points.

Carson Williams was a 16-5 winner over Kyler Hall, while Castellanos was a 15-7 victor over Kyle Martin. Hageman got the Bobcats’ first win of the night with his 11-10 decision of Laverne Borntreger, and Gannon Williams logged a 6-4 triumph over Briar Fritz.

Marshalltown is at home again on Thursday night, hosting Class 3A No. 7 Ankeny in another conference dual. The Bobcats go to the Des Moines Lincoln Invitational on Saturday.
