Tigers slain by No. 2 Iowa Western, 3-1

Scoring the first goal allowed by Iowa Western Community College this season was not enough for the Marshalltown Community College men’s soccer team to escape defeat against the No. 2 Reivers Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 loss.

The Tigers, ranked for the first time this season at No. 20, went down early in the game thanks to a free kick goal from Jesus De Vicente at the 13-minute mark. The score held firm at 1-0 in favor of the Reivers into the halftime break.

Six minutes into the second half, Iowa Western added to its lead thanks to a goal from Ibrahim Conde.

With a 2-0 cushion, the Reivers could begin to relax. But in the 64th minute, MCC’s Asuka Kaneda scored on an assist from Felipe da Silva to cut the deficit to 2-1 and get the Tigers right back in the game.

In the 80th minute of action, though, it was Iowa Western’s Junior Casillas who scored to seal the deal for the Reivers and hand MCC its first loss of the season.

The Tigers were outshot 8-4 by Iowa Western.

MCC gets back at it Tuesday on the road against Indian Hills.
