Tigers topple Kankakee to start 4-game homestand

Nuha Sagnia

The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team used a balanced attack to overcome Kankakee CC’s one-man show to beat the Cavaliers 71-68 on Saturday at the Student Activity Center.

Four players scored in double figures for the Tigers (11-15), who had to survive three potential tying 3-point attempts by Kankakee in the last 22 seconds.

Nuha Sagnia led MCC with 16 points, 12 rebounds and one blocked shot, and Gedeon Shango also had a double-double of 15 points and 12 boards. David Roberts finished with 12 points and seven assists, and Trey Sinegal added 12 points as well.

The Tigers were unable to help themselves at the free-throw line, going 9-for-21 at the charity stripe, but still managed to capture the non-conference victory.

Christian Roberts scored a game-high 29 points for Kankakee (13-8), going 13-for-25 from the field while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.

MCC’s four-game homestand continues with Monday’s match with the Grand View junior varsity and Saturday’s contest against Highland CC.
