Bobcats find consistency at right time
ADEL — The Marshalltown girls’ golf team is seeing the results at the right time.
The Bobcats placed fourth out of 12 teams at the Waukee Invite on Monday at River Valley Golf Course, carding its fourth-consecutive team score in the 360s.
Marshalltown shot a 363 and finished only two strokes back of West Des Moines Valley in third place with a 361. Southeast Polk won the meet with its 330 and Ames was runner-up at 341. Waukee Northwest was one shot back of the Bobcats in fifth place.
Bobcat sophomore Natalie Henson finished in fifth place with her round of 8-over-par 80, Gaby Estabrook finished in with an 86, Autumn Thompson shot a 96 and Harper Wilson closed out the team scoring with her 101.
Kenedy Lammert (133) and Anessa Morrison (138) also competed for the Bobcats.
“We had some solid stretches, especially since it was a course we’d never seen before,” said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. “There were a couple holes where we could have taken a different approach — No. 5 in particular — but overall the girls are swinging it well.
“Getting back-to-back rounds in the 90s from Autumn Thompson and having Harper Wilson steadily bringing her average down has helped us beat teams that were beating us earlier in the year.”
Valley’s Hallie Yates claimed medalist honors with her even-par 72, and Southeast Polk’s Rylin Davidson won a cardback against Emersen Motl of Ames for runner-up after both golfers shot 74.
Marshalltown completes the Iowa Alliance Conference North Division tournament today in Fort Dodge, teeing off at 10 a.m. at Fort Dodge Country Club for the second half of the league invitational. The Bobcats and Ames were tied for first place after Friday’s first half of play in Mason City.
