South Tama boys tab two second-teamers

The South Tama boys’ basketball team had its best season in six years, and the Trojans’ players were rewarded accordingly.

South Tama senior guard Cade Rosenberger and senior forward Tommy Tyynismaa both were named to the WaMaC Conference’s all-West Division second team after leading the Trojans to an 8-14 overall record and four division wins.

It’s the most wins, both overall and in conference, for a South Tama boys team since the Trojans won the West in 2017-18. STC’s two second-team selections is the most the program has had since then as well.

Rosenberger averaged 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game in WaMaC play. He ranked third in the West in steals, fourth in assists, and 14th in scoring.

It’s the second all-conference honor for Rosenberger, who was an honorable mention selection last winter.

Tyynismaa missed four WaMaC games due to injury, but still earned second-team honors. He averaged 10.8 points, 3.8 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. He ranked ninth in the West in scoring and steals and fifth in blocked shots.

STC’s honorable mention selections were senior guard Daniel Wiese and freshman center Emerson Bridgewater. Wiese averaged 5.1 points and 1.5 assists per game, while Bridgewater put up 9.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in league play. He ranked third in the West in rebounding and blocked shots, and 13th in scoring.

The South Tama girls’ basketball team was represented on the all-WaMaC West squads by seniors Kayla Heck and Sienna DeFoe.

Heck and DeFoe both earned honorable mention selection for the Trojans, who have won just one game against WaMac competition since 2019.

Heck led STC in scoring 7.9 points per game in league play, ranking her 13th in the West. She added 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game.

DeFoe averaged 2.8 points and a team-leading 3.9 rebounds per game for the Trojans.
