DES MOINES — Three Marshalltown girls golfers earned first-team all-conference status at Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference Meet at Bright Grandview Golf Course.

Natalie Henson was the runner-up medalist with a 3-over-par round of 73; Gaby Estabrook placed fifth with an 83 and Harper Wilson was sixth with an 86.

Emma Clawson had the fourth score for MHS with a new career low of 105.

“For us to take three of the top six spots and comprise half of the first team is a great accomplishment that the girls can be proud of,” MHS head coach Lucas Johnson said.

The Bobcats finished second in the team standings with a 347 team score, nine strokes behind Ames (338). Des Moines Roosevelt (399) was a distant third behind Marshalltown in the nine-team tournament.

“We gave Ames a good battle, but in the end they just had more depth in scoring,” Johnson said. “After a tough day at Waukee, Emma Clawson had a strong bounce-back round.”

Saleah Vivanh-Vong of Des Moines East claimed medalist honors with her round of 1-under 69.

MHS is back in action on May 15 hosting a Class 4A Region 3 tournament at the American Legion Golf Course.

“We’ve got a week to get ready for regionals and I know the girls have plenty of areas in their games that they want to focus on,” Johnson said. “Being host gives us a great opportunity to make a run at a state berth.”
