SPORTS SHORT: Local teams compete at STC’s Co-Ed Early Bird

TAMA — East Marshall led the local teams competing in the South Tama Co-Ed Early Bird on Tuesday, as the Mustang girls took second place and the boys were third in the eight-team invitational.

BCLUW was the next best area school in both halves of the meet, with the Comet girls taking third and the boys going for fifth. South Tama’s girls and boys both placed sixth in the final team standings, while GMG was eighth in both.

On the girls’ side, East Marshall was led first-place finishes from Sydney Hull in the 1,500-meter run and Ashtyn Wheater in the shot put. Hull clocked in at 5 minutes, 17.37 seconds, finishing two-hundreths of a second ahead of BCLUW’s Kalia Stover, while Wheater won with a put of 37 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

BCLUW’s girls won the 4×100-meter throwers relay, as Kirsten McCallion, Addison Moeller, Kaelyn Dixon and Allena Hupfeld finished in 1:05.58. The Comet quartet of Klayre Gallentine, Layla Follett, Stover and Abby Kemp won the distance medley in 4:45.97.

South Tama’s Scout Ridout scored second in the 100 (13.86) and third in the 200 (28.63), with teammate Maylee Rucker taking third in the 100 (14.03). The Trojans got third in the 4×100, 4×100 throwers and sprint medley relays.

GMG’s top performance came from Arianna Pierce in the shot put, as she earned third with a distance of 32-10 1/2. Chloe Dieleman claimed fourth in the 3,000 (13:44.72), and Makayla Pendleton was fifth in the discus (94-6).

On the boys’ side, East Marshall got individual event victories from Eli Burns in the 110 hurdles (16.51) and Blake Neuroth in the 400 hurdles (1:00.34). Neuroth and Burns ran the first two legs of the Mustangs’ triumphant 4×400 relay as well, teaming with Kaden Grant and Cael Curphy for the win in 3:44.52 in the final race of the meet.

BCLUW’s Cayden White captured gold in the 800 (1:59.92), as did the distance medley relay team of Vance Hoyt, Colton Donaldson, Kevin Hill and White (3:45.30). Owen Myers was second in the high jump (5-8), and Emmitt Petermeier scored silver in the shot put (44-3 1/2).

Cody Blocker posted South Tama’s top result by winning the open 400 in 55.95. Barrett Jesina was second in the 3,200 (10:20.07), as were the Trojans’ 4×100 (Blocker, Michael Henry, Tyrus Clegg, Nick Upah) and sprint medley (Natayvious Sanders, Henry, Upah, Josiah Houghton) relays.

GMG’s top result was the 4×100 throwers relay, which took fifth in 57.16. Caleb Ferch, Jacoby Woodbury, Henry Dieleman and Jay Bessmen led the charge for the Wolverines. The quartet of Grady Dieleman, Rider Kupka, Ethan Klemesrud and Easton Sash scored sixth in the 4×400 finale in 4:01.52.
