WEEK 2: East Marshall football moves to 2-0 with win at E-B-F

EDDYVILLE — The East Marshall football team scored three times in the second quarter and held off Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont to improve to 2-0 with Friday night’s 21-16 win in non-district play.

Mustang junior quarterback Jaxson Boswell threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the second period to propel East Marshall to 2-0 to start the season for the second year in a row. Boswell finished 13-for-26 passing for 156 yards with an interception, while running 17 times for 62 yards.

Eli Burns had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown, Blake Neuroth made five grabs for 49 yards, and Cody Weaver had three receptions for 39 yards and another score for the Mustangs.

Weaver also made two interceptions to go with 6.5 tackles on defense. Wyatt Stalzer had a team-high nine tackles, one quarterback sack and a fumble recovery, and Lucas Bowie had seven tackles and a sack. Gavin Gaschler contributed 6.5 tackles as the Mustangs held Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (0-2) to 206 yards of total offense.

Zane Mullenix rushed 20 times for 113 yards and a score for the host Rockets.

West Marshall holds down New Hampton for first win

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall football team scored its first win of the season with a 25-6 victory over New Hampton on Friday night.

The Trojans (1-1) forced four turnovers and gained 313 yards of total offense to pick up their first victory. Quarterback Blayk Hart finished 6-for-14 passing for 100 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, while also toting the pigskin 19 times for 161 yards. Kinnick Geers added 12 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown while making four catches for 94 yards and two TDs.

Dalton Eldridge led the West Marshall defense with nine tackles, including three for loss, and shared a quarterback sack with Connor Yakel. Geers added 6.5 tackles and two interceptions, while Teegun Edler had an interception and Jon Gonzalez recovered a fumble.

Wilson Buckley buried a 30-yard field goal for the Trojans, who held New Hampton to 82 yards rushing and 240 yards of offense.

Wolverines can’t keep up with Clarksville in defeat

GARWIN — The GMG football team fell to 0-2 after a 76-12 loss at the hands of Clarksville in Friday’s 8-Man clash.

The Wolverines trailed 22-0 after the opening quarter before scoring twice in the second period. Clarksville (1-1) led 36-12 at the half and tacked on 40 unanswered points in the second half.

Clarksville quarterback Nathan Moon rushed 12 times for 294 yards and seven touchdowns as the Indians piled up 406 yards and eight scores on the ground. Moon’s only pass attempt was intercepted by Jacob Snider.

GMG quarterback Ethan Klemesrud was 17-for-34 passing for 232 yards with three interceptions. He led the Wolverines with nine carries for 75 yards and a touchdown, while Easton Sash added nine totes for 21 yards and a score.

Bodie Hutchinson led the receivers with six catches for 96 yards, Jacoby Woodbury had four grabs for 65 yards, and Sash had five catches for 62 yards.

Caleb Ferch led the GMG defense with 8.5 tackles, Sash had seven stops, and Jay Bessman made 6.5 tackles.
