FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown girls’ wrestling team got beat 8-6 on the mat, but Fort Dodge made it hurt worse than that.
All eight of the Dodgers’ wins came by pinfall in a 48-35 triumph over the Bobcats in Thursday’s Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet.
Four of Fort Dodge’s pins arrived in the first period during the final conference dual of the season.
Marshalltown was unable to reverse course on four head-to-head losses to the Dodgers from Tuesday’s Alliance Tournament at the Roundhouse. All eight rematches returned the same result except for two, as Marshalltown’s Faith Sommerlot turned Tuesday’s technical fall over Greyson Hinds into a third-period pin in Thursday’s clash at 125 pounds.
Natalie Nickey pinned Lydia Cowell on Tuesday, but instead scored a 16-0 technical fall for the Bobcats in Thursday’s rematch.
Sommerlot’s pin was one of three for MHS on the night. Madylin McDonald decked Rey Lacina again at 145, and Olivia Wise pinned Emma Potter for the second time this week at 190.
Marshalltown received two forfeits to round out its wins against the Dodgers.
The Bobcats are off until their Class 2A Region 6 tournament on Jan. 30 at South Tama. The top two finishers at each of 14 weight classes will advance to the Feb. 5-6 state tournament at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
