NEWTON — The run of medals for Marshalltown came to an end, but that didn’t stop the Bobcats from tying a bow on their 2025-26 campaign.

Marshalltown High School golfers Harper Wilson, Morgan Hilderbrand, Parker Christen and Jacob Seberger played one last competitive round of golf this season as Bobcats with Tuesday’s IGHSAU/IHSAA State Co-Ed Golf Tournament at Westwood Golf Course in Newton.

Wilson and Hilderbrand, who both competed in the Class 4A girls’ state golf tournament last week, got in one more round of state experience with Tuesday’s Class 2A co-ed finale.

Hilderbrand and Christen combined on a score of 87 to tie for 38th place at the alternate shot event, while Wilson and Seberger slotted into 51st place with a 91.

Various Bobcat pairings had placed in the top 10 in each of the previous four seasons, highlighted by a co-ed state title for Natalie Henson and Ryan Schmit in 2023.

Haley Morris and Jacob Schmit of Cedar Rapids Xavier claimed this year’s co-ed crown, shooting a combined 70 to finish two strokes ahead of Bree Stegall and Jay McCausland of Waterloo West in the 65-team field.

CLASS 1A

Three-time individual state qualifier and 2025 Class 2A champion Hunter Polley of West Marshall played in the Class 1A IGHSAU/IHSAA State Co-Ed Golf Tournament for the fourth year in a row, finishing 12th or better once again.

Polley, who will golf at the University of Dubuque in the fall, joined fellow Trojan senior Rachel Randall for Tuesday’s 1A tournament at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course. The West Marshall pairing shared the ninth-best score of the day, but a cardback left the Trojans without a top-10 medal to show for their efforts.

Polley and Randall were one of five teams to shoot an 81, but only two of them cracked the top 10.

Fellow West Marshall seniors Riley Randall and Connor Kemmerer combined to shoot 106 on Tuesday in Marshalltown and tied for 61st place.

Alexis Cummins and Drew Henderson of North Union won a three-way tie for the 1A co-ed title after shooting 75. Elin Mueller and Alex Ihrig of Dubuque Wahlert finished second while Kirsten Nuss and Charlie Kriener of New Hampton took third.

Polley finished 12th in the state co-ed meet as a freshman when paired with Ella Meyer, and in 2024 he joined Allie Pfantz to claim 10th. Last year, Polley and Natalie Nichols scored seventh place in the co-ed finale.

Starting at $4.38/week.
