Arrest made in Casey’s shooting

Trujillo

Marshalltown Police Department officers and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation special agents arrested Rocky Dean Trujillo, age 20, of Marshalltown – hours after a fatal early Monday shooting. Trujillo is being held at the Marshall County jail pending an initial court appearance.

He is charged with the first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, going armed with intent, assault with intent to inflict serious injury and trafficking in stolen weapons.

Michael Ray West, 48, of Marshalltown, died from a gunshot wound at Casey’s convenience store, 111 N. Third Ave.

West was an employee and was working at the time of the incident.

Law enforcement personnel executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Bromley Street in Marshalltown.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshalltown Fire Department and Unity Point Ambulance Service all responded to the initial 911 calls for this incident.
