Hoffman leaving sheriff’s office

Hoffman

Marshall County Sheriff Steve Hoffman, on Wednesday, announced he is leaving the office.

Hoffman has accepted a position with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as one of four chiefs.

“I am confident I will have continued opportunity for growth in Iowa’s most populous county and the long-term impact to the financial stability of my family is quite significant,” he said.

Even though he is not required to leave his elected position in Marshall County, Hoffman is working with leadership in his office to transition out.

“The timing is unfortunate in certain respects,” he said. “However, I hope that the Marshall County community may be understanding of the depth of opportunity presented by this bittersweet and unforeseen development.”

Hoffman began his law enforcement career in Marshall County in 1991. He was elected sheriff twice during his time with the sheriff’s office. Hoffman said he adores the community and it has been an honor and a professional highlight of his life.

“As is sometimes said, everything has a season,” he said.
