AMES — Aubrey Joens hit 5 3-pointers for the second-straight game and increased her career best to 21 points to lead No. 14 Iowa State to a 96-55 win over Southern on Sunday.

Big sister Ashley Joens added 16 points, Lexi Donarski 15 and Nyamer Diew 13 off the bench for the ISU (4-0). Emily Ryan had a career-high 13 assists and nine points.

Donarski and Ashley Joens had three 3-pointers as Iowa State was 16-34 from distance and shot 48 percent overall. Aubrey Jones matched her career high with nine rebounds as the Cyclones won the boards 49-34.

Nakia Kincey paced the Jaguars (0-4) with 12 points.

Iowa State men wallop Grambling 82-47

AMES — Aljaz Kunc scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures and Iowa State breezed to an 82-47 victory over Grambling on Sunday night.

Kunc sank all seven of his shots, including five 3-pointers, for the Cyclones (4-0). Kunc scored 15 in the first half to help Iowa State take a 49-25 lead into intermission. Tristan Enaruna pitched in with 15 points and nine rebounds. Tyrese Hunter added 12 points, six assists and five boards. Tre Jackson had 12 points, Caleb Grill scored 10 and George Conditt grabbed 10 rebounds.

AJ Taylor topped the Tigers (0-4) with 12 points and Danya Kingsby scored 10.

MCC women’s squad collects first win

The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team earned its first win of the season, beating Central (Neb.) CC 65-56 on Saturday in the Emerson Classic.

The Tigers (1-5) were led by Ianara Morbidoni’s game-high 23 points. Keelie Eitel made six 3-pointers on her way to 18 points, and Carolina Rodriguez Sanchez finished with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Amy Mitchell led the visiting Raiders with 17 points.

Sagnia’s big game propels Tiger men

Nuha Sagnia had a career-high 22 points and a team-leading seven rebounds to help the Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team defeat Bryant & Stratton College 83-75 in Saturday’s finale of the Emerson Classic.

David Roberts pitched in with 17 points, five assists and four rebounds, and Rusmir Hamzic chipped in 10 points off the bench for the Tigers (4-4).

Malik Tidwell led the visiting Bobcats with 18 points, keyed by five 3-pointers.

Preseason No. 10 Trojans rip Royals

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall girls’ basketball team, ranked 10th in Class 3A, held Colo-NESCO scoreless in the first and third quarters, cruising to a 64-9 triumph in Friday’s season opener.

Katy Reyerson led the Trojans with 15 points, seven steals and six assists, while Keatan Pfantz finished with 14 points and three steals. Bella Borgos, a freshman, had 12 points, six steals and six rebounds in her varsity debut.

Lauren Solberg had eight steals and six rebounds, while Lily Zahnd pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds.
