Ave Maria Study Club holds September meeting

The Ave Maria Study club held its first meeting of the new 2023-24 year on Sept. 8 in the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church. Twelve members were present. The afternoon began with a salad luncheon hosted by the officers with members bringing salads or sandwiches. Dianne Maile brought a birthday cake to mark the 70th year since the Ave Maria Study Club began in Marshalltown in 1953. Beta Sigma Phi opens first meeting at Dairy Queen

Sigma Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi met for its first meeting of the 2023-24 year at Dairy Queen on South Center Street at noon on Sept. 12 for lunch. President Diane Hobson hosted the meeting with the opening question: “What different food or drink did you enjoy this summer?” as eight members, two guests answered. One member was excused as she helped with the Sept. 12 voting. Secretary Alice Nicholson read the May minutes and approved. Liscomb Auxiliary discusses fall plans

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met on Aug. 29 at the home of Vickie Penner in Liscomb. Roll call was answered by five ladies. Pres. Sharon Hatch called meeting to order. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave opening prayer. All recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Auxiliary Preamble. Minutes of June meeting were read and approved. American Legion Auxiliary has full schedule

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 46 has been busy. The group hosted several concessions at the Marshalltown Fairgrounds during craft shows. The proceeds are returned to veterans and the community. Several donations were made to the Iowa Veterans Home, one to support the Little League Baseball Field Restoration project. An ALA banner will be proudly represented on the fence at the restored ballfield. Second, the Unit purchased four roasters to support facility-wide events and family functions at IVH.
