Two local 10-year-old girls who will be sponsored by Iowa ET, the National TTT Society, at the Des Moines YMCA Camp this summer, were identified by Sue Cope, ET camp chairman, when that chapter met recently. The group will outfit the girls completely for camp, provide shopping trips and transportation to and from camp and also sponsor several pre-and post-camp activities for them. The St. Patrick Study Club of St. Francis of Assisi Parish met on April 25 at the home of Dee Dunham with six members present. President Karen Giarratano presided over the business meeting which opened with the prayer of St. Patrick. Connie Stansberry provided an excellent program on her pilgrimage to Italy. She told of visiting Assisi, Siena, Tuscany, Orvieto and other areas related to St. Francis, St. Catherine, St. Dominic and others. The MCRSPA met April 17 at the Marshalltown Public Library. The group played a social charades/mixer to start the day before enjoying spring themed treats. There were 22 members present. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Barb Vana. Minutes of the March meeting were read by Rita Smith. CONRAD — The Conrad American Legion Auxiliary Post #681 will kick off its annual Poppy Campaign on May 1. The campaign will be conducted throughout May with post members distributing poppies door-to-door and with poppies available in several Conrad businesses, leading up to Memorial Day. The American Legion Auxiliary adopted the poppy as its memorial flower in 1921 following World War I, making the poppy a symbol of freedom and the blood sacrificed by troops in wartime. The use of the poppy comes from the poem “In Flanders Fields” which refers to the poppies that sprang up over ...
