TOPS welcomes new members

Would you like or need to lose weight? Help is right here in Marshalltown. TOPS stands for Take Off Pounds Sensibly and this is a support group that will help you stay on whatever meal plan you or your doctor decide is best for you. Members will be there to cheer you on in your journey to lose weight. TOPS is a small group, but it has dedicated members that wish to help. TOPS 1243 meets at the First Church of the Nazarene at 11 W. South St. in the community room, which is just east of the church where the parking lot is. Weigh-in runs from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the meeting follows.

Chapter BB hosts variety of meetings

P.E.O. Chapter BB gathered for an initial covered dish luncheon on Sept. 16 at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Each member was asked to bring a food to share that began with the first letter of her last name. The feast included deviled egg dip, asparagus wraps, assorted pickled items that begin with the letter B, a lemon fruit salad and key lime pie. Following the luncheon the regular business meeting was held. On Oct. 7, the meeting was held at the library. LAUREL — On Oct. 16, The Harold McBroom American Legion Auxiliary #635 met at the Post Home with President Laura Tribby calling the meeting to order at 7 p.m. in forum. The chaplain opened the meeting in prayer. Members stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, stood in silence in memory of POW/MIAs and deceased veterans and recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. Rotary hears about airport hanger and terminal project

The Marshalltown Rotary club hit the road for another October field trip. The Oct. 22 destination was the Marshalltown Municipal Airport. Rotarians and a number of guests assembled in the hanger attached to the terminal for a sack lunch. Zach Tomesch reported that more than 5,000 food items were picked up around town Saturday in conjunction with Scouting For Food. The club is using the Scouting For Food event as part of a food and security project with other clubs in its district.
