In Greg Nichols’ T-R March 17 editorial, he discussed the role of government in forming a community. The Marshalltown City Council has a duty to support and encourage assets to Marshalltown. Very many of us are disappointed that the City Council did not pass the resolution to provide funding for the public use of the MACC (Fisher Center). Since the last city election, the naysayers have taken over and a lot of us no longer have representation. Disappointed in council’s MACC funding decision

The City Council vote that passed by a 4-3 vote to not support the Marshalltown Arts & Civic Center was very disappointing. Partnerships with the City and nonprofit groups have enhanced the livability and vitality of the community for decades and with that foresight, people like Bill Fisher and Martha Ellen Tye invested in Marshalltown. I have received several questions and concerns about why I did not vote to provide $100,000 in funding for the Fisher Community Center / Marshalltown Arts and Civic Center (MACC).
