The entire starting five players of Marshalltown High School received all-CIML Iowa Conference boys’ honors as Cole Danielson and Chanse Creekmur were named to the first team.

Ann Caldwell, a graduating senior from Central Iowa Christian Academy, was awarded the Academic Achievement Scholarship at Cedarville College for the 1993-94 academic year.

MHS wrestler Mike Mann at 185 pounds; West Marshall’s Bill Pfantz at 119 pounds; South Tama wrestler Scott Mathes at 132 pounds and Grundy Center’s Dave Ehrig in the unlimited classification were poised to wrestle for their individual weight state championship titles in the Class 3A and Class 2A matches.

One of the state’s top scorers in all of Class 2A, East Marshall’s Walker Seim, was awarded by the coaches of the North Iowa Cedar League’s west division as the conference’s Most Outstanding Player.

The East Marshall Mustangs defeated Brooklyn 71-62 in the Class 2A district semifinals with Dan Berggren scoring 17 points, Matt Knoll dropping in 18 points and Josh Dunham adding 13.

MHS swimmer Mark Wuest set a new school record in the 100 yard butterfly at the state swimming and diving meet and brought home the highest finish, third place, of an individual swimmer for MHS.

Chanse Creekmur’s shot with .9 seconds left in the game sent MHS to the boys state tournament as the No. 9 ranked Bobcats upset No. 4 Ames 51-50.

Three MHS students were selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference: Micah Hill, Mike Macke and Blair Heiserman.

MHS wrestler Mike Mann and Grundy Center’s Dave Ehrig brought hom the state championship crown in the 185 pound and heavyweight classes at the State Wrestling Meet.

In another nail-biter with only three seconds remaining in the game, West Marshall’s Jake Shipley shot off a three-pointer for the 41-40 win over Waterloo Columbus Catholic for a trip to the state boys basketball tournament.

Garwin’s Jerry Rohach with 24 points and Brad Smoldt’s 28 points led the hot Roughriders to is 20th straight win of the season beating Eldora 86-50 in the first round of District action.

Marshalltown Community College women closed regular season play with a win over AIB 68-47 as Lacee Bates paced the Tigers with 12 points, teammate Tonya Davis grabbed seven rebounds and Megan Stanton had a team-high five steals.

Five West Marshall girls landed in the top two teams of the Heart of Iowa Conference all-conference teams: unanimous selection for first team was Justean Bohnsack and also on first team was Kim Baker; on second team was: Lisa Zeller, Gretchen Jones and Sharon Blood.

The 1978 edition of “Who’s Who in Music” featured LDF High School students: Kevin Koepnick, Ken Naig, Eric Rubenbauer, LeAnna Zesch, Annette Severidt, Deb Powers and Greg Lundberg.
