South Tama boys basketball rolled up a pair of wins smashing Saydel 78-54 and rolling over Indianola 61-38 as Kevin Kulstafte and Brian Johnson led the scoring for he Trojans with 16 and 14 points respectively in the Saydel game and 14 points and 12 points in the Indianola matchup.

The West Marshall wrestlers completed a sweep of the Heart of Iowa Conference as wrestling champs with 189 points and crowned three champions: Walker Buck, 130 pounds; Jesse Nason, 152 pounds and Richard Affeldt at 189 pounds.

MHS gymnasts defeated Newton 133.35-122.30 as freshman Christy Speer placed first as all-around gymnast with 30.85 points.

Eldora- New Providence girls defeated Hubbard-Radcliffe 57-50 as Abbie Brown led the offense with 32 points and 10 rebounds and April Samp dropped in 13 points toward the win.

The Green Mountain boys basketball squad slammed Maxwell 97-37 to gain a three-way tie with Garwin and LDF in the Ta-Ma-Ja Conference as Doug Urhammer fired 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Eric Collins added 28 points and 10 rebounds.

MHS boys swim team attended the district swim meet and had sophomore Brian Bacon qualify for state in four events: 50 yd. freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 free relay with Brandt Bergman, Willy Tan and Jack Collison and the 400 free relay with Mike Gettemy, Tan and Bergman.

The West Marshall girls sent their record to 12-4 with a 44-39 victory over Woodward-Granger as Sharon Blood and Lisa Zeller led the offense with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Seven BCLUW wrestlers advanced to the final round in sectional tournament action with six advancing to the championship matches: George McCombs, 112 pounds; Mitch Woosley, 119; Jeff King, 138; Mark Schwienebart, 167 pounds; Jeff Butters, 185 and Bruce Carnes, heavyweight with Greg Morris, 98 pounds to the consolation round.

Three series of more than 400 points surged the MHS bowling club past Mason City as D.J. Koger had a team-best 243 and 430 series; Shane Arment and Cody Taylor each finished with a 422 series and high games of 236 and 233, respectively, for a 2949-2400 win.

East Marshall girls used a pressure defense to force the Grundy Center Spartans into 38 turnovers for a 54-48 victory as Kathie Eggleston fired 18 points and Angie Strain added 12 to lead the Mustangs.
