Sixth-ranked West Marshall boys marched to a 22 point half-time lead over CMB and routed them 81-37 in the Class 2A District 14 opener as Ross Howe hit for 24 points and Derek Ferch led the Trojans in assists with six, with two highlight reel blocks, six steals and seven rebounds.

The Royals of Colo-Nesco dropped West Marshall girls 66-40 in Class 2A district tournament as Emilie Fredregill the Royals with 20 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots and Mindi Harrison added 17 points and seven rebounds and Heather Hudson dropped in 14 points and five rebounds.

The BCL Comet boys easily moved past Union-Whitten 89-59 as Doug Adams poured in 36 points for the Comets followed by Paul Miller’s 29 points and 14 rebounds.

MHS junior Claire Runquist qualified for the national forensics tournament in Birmingham, Ala., by taking first place in her category, legislative debate in the Congress division, at the National Forensics League Eastern Iowa District Congress.

Five MHS matmen secured a berth at the state wrestling tournament: Damon Henry, 119 pounds; Zach Ray, 152; Aaron Tecklenberg at 160 pounds, Todd Hirsch, 171 and Jade Robinson at 189 pounds.

Jim Mosher, a student at BCL High School, was the winner of the Farm Bureau scholarship for Marshall County.

Five of six EM/GMG qualifiers received medals at the state wrestling tournament: Sam Upah claimed third place at 171 pounds; Gabe Uhde was fourth at 130; Blake Meling took sixth at 135 pounds; Jase Schossow was sixth at 145 and Ryan Valline was sixth at 160 pounds.

MHS seniors Abbey Peterson and Amy Neldeberg were picked to the Central Iowa Metro League National Conference all-conference team: Peterson was a unanimous first team selection and Neldeberg was selected for second team.
