Jake Shipley, of West Marshall, had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the No. 6 Trojans back from a 13 point deficit to beat Panora 49-45 and a spot in substate action.

The Colo-Nesco boys basketball team shot to an early lead and made free throws down the stretch to beat Northeast Hamilton 46-37 and advanced to the championship Class 1A District 5 game as Brandon Eley scored a team high 14 points.

Tyler Peglow, Leigh Rutherford and Dani Grewell were three of the students from Fisher Elementary that participated in the making of 1400 Valentines to be sent to Haddon Elementary in California which was hard hit by an earthquake.

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team handed its fans a 50-45 victory over Denver and a berth in the Class 2A girls state basketball tournament as Laurie Hopkins and Emily Bailey led the Rebels in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Garwin won a close district game over Iowa Valley 65-63 to advance as Brad Smoldt hit for a game high 26 points and Jerry Rohach dropped in 21 points to the cause.

Tammy Sargent, of Melbourne, was chosen as the Marshall County Farm Bureau’s candidate to enter the Iowa Farm Bureau Scholarship contest and was awarded a $200 scholarship by the county Farm Bureau women.

The Bobcats moved one game closer to the state tournament as they defeated Cedar Falls 58-50 with Dan Clayton again leading all scorers with 21 points.
