Crandon elected Grand Master of Masons in Iowa

Arthur G. Crandon, of rural Gilman, was elected Grand Master of Masons in Iowa at the 171st Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Iowa of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. The event was held in Sioux City on Sept. 17-19. His one-year term started Sept. 19 and will continue to Sept. 17, 2016.

Marshall Lodge will host a Grand Master’s Receiving Ceremony and Banquet in Crandon’s honor on Oct. 10. A reception and dinner at the Elmwood Country Club will coincide with the ceremonial opening of the Lodge that afternoon at the Masonic Temple.

Crandon is a member of Marshall Lodge No. 108 in Marshalltown and currently serves that Lodge as secretary. His membership in Freemasonry began in October 1971 in Cyrus Lodge No. 338 in Gilman. He later transferred to Marshalltown. Crandon previously served the Grand Lodge of Iowa as Senior Grand Steward in 1997-98, Junior Grand Warden in 2001-02 and the Board of Custodians of the Work from 2004 to the present. Crandon belongs to the York Rite bodies in Marshalltown, the Scottish Rite in Des Moines and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona.

His and wife Peggy’s family include two daughters and their husbands: Kara and Chad Goecke, and Kami and Steve Snider and five grandchildren. Crandon retired from farming in 2010.

Crandon’s goal for the year is to get back to basics and says “to me, that means focusing on what we are really about as Masons.” More details can be found at the Grand Lodge of Iowa’s website, www.gl-iowa.org.

Marshall Lodge also will host a Grand Master Area Meeting on Thursday evening, Oct. 27 at the Masonic Temple.
