Auxiliary Unit #46 discusses Memorial Day activities

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #46 met at the Post Home. Hostess for the evening was Marlene Hartwig. The meeting was called to order by president Arlene Kremer. Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were read and approved. Correspondence received included thank-you notes from Iowa River Hospice and the 4 Chaplains Foundation for donations. A recommendation from the Board to donate to Child Abuse Prevention Services was read and approved by the membership.

President Kremer gave a report on completion of the Poppy Window at the Mall. Committee reports were given. Cards and Memorials sent one sympathy card and one get-well card this month. Girls’ State candidate Olivia Ryan will attend Girl’s State on June 18-23 at Drake University. Membership is at 89 percent or 207.

A Memorial Service was conducted by Delores Popp and Marge Woltjer in honor of those members who have passed away in the last year.

Roseann Nymeyer and Marcella Stewart shared their experiences visiting residents of the Iowa Veterans Home and other nursing homes with Nymeyer’s Shetland ponies. The enjoyment of the residents made their visits a joy and was greatly appreciated by all.

We were reminded of the Memorial Day events at the cemeteries and the Center Street Bridge on Memorial Day. The Calvin Cain Memorial and supper will be at the Post Home on May 31 at 7 p.m.

President Kremer announced that instead of having a May Brunch we will have a potato bar meal preceding the next regular meeting at 6 p.m. on June 13. All new members and past presidents will be honored. All members are encouraged to attend. Thus the schedule for that evening will be Board meeting at 5 p.m., potato bar at 6 p.m. and the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

The meeting ended with a prayer by the Chaplain and a song.
