Chapter BB hears story on Jessie Binford

Eleven members of Chapter BB, P.E.O met April 17 at the Binford House. Julie Hitchins served as hostess with Jean Brennecke and Sue Cope serving as co-hostesses.

Before the meeting, Mary Giese presented an informative program about the life of Jessie Binford. She was a daughter of Thaddeus and Angelica Binford, who built the historic Binford House in 1874. Jessie was a famous activist and social worker for 60 years in Chicago, intervening for children and women. In retirement she returned to Marshalltown, passing away when she was 90.

LaDonna Allison gave the annual auditing report. She also presented the Local Scholarship Committee’s recommendation for three $1,000 scholarships to be awarded the Marshalltown High School award ceremony in May.

President, Carolyn Anderson told members that the there will be an official visit by the State P.E.O. the July 17 meeting. Two State amendments were approved by members. The next regular meeting will be May 1 with Jane Bauer as hostess.
