Retired School Personnel hold April meeting

The MCRSPA met April 17 at the Marshalltown Public Library. The group played a social charades/mixer to start the day before enjoying spring themed treats. There were 22 members present.

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Barb Vana. Minutes of the March meeting were read by Rita Smith. Otto Welfring gave the treasurer’s report stating that there were no outstanding bills, and the membership remains at 72.

Under old business, Phil Tetzloff reported that IPERS is calm, and there was no significant news to report. He also said that Marshall County is one of the most active chapters in the state.

Vana passed around a list for members to sign up for next year’s social committees. Anyone not able to sign will be assigned a month. She also passed around a sheet for members to suggest programs for next year. Anyone interested in attending the district meeting on May 17 is asked to contact Carole Permar. It will be in Charles City.

Public Service announcements were presented to the group. Aggie Zeihan told everyone about the Assistance League garage sale this coming weekend on Thursday through Saturday. Sandy Bennett told everyone about the meal packaging event that will be at the high school April 26. The students from various schools have organized this and hope to package 50,000 meals that will stay in Marshall County. People can register to help by going to the Community Foundation website. This project is sponsored and led totally by students.

The social committee of Julie Bousum, Glenda Barton, Smith and Mary Travillian was thanked. The next meeting will be a potluck at noon on May 8 at the Marshalltown Public Library. The program will be a presented by Sarah Rosenblum about projects and programs of the library. The social committee will be Diane and Keith Oleson, Nancy Brandt-Ahn and Rita Oetker.
