Salad luncheon meeting at St. Patrick’s Club

The St. Patrick Study Club of St. Francis of Assisi Parish met on May 24 at the home of Karen Giarratano with seven members present. A salad luncheon was enjoyed prior to a short business meeting at which President Giarratano presided. Minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. It was decided that a focus for the upcoming year would be looking for opportunities to do random acts of kindness. Plans were made for the year starting in September. It was decided to continue to meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month September thru May.

VFW Auxiliary Post 839 holds May meeting

The May 2023 general membership meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Post 839 met at the post home on May 16. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by President Liz Polkiewicz, followed by the Opening Ceremonies according to the Ritual. There were 12 members present, of whom 11 were officers. Sigma Master holds May meeting

Sigma Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi met for lunch at Legends American Grill on May 9 with Alice Nicholson hosting. Seven members and one guest answered the opening meeting with the question “What are your plans for Mother’s Day?” Minutes of the April 11 meeting was read and approved, along with Barb Noid giving the Treasurer’s Report. Retired School Personnel holds potluck luncheon

The Marshall County Retired School Personnel Association met May 8 at the Marshalltown public library. A potluck luncheon was enjoyed by all members. There were 21 members and one guest present. Sarah Rosenblum, director of the library, presented the program telling about “What’s Going on at the Library.” She told about an upcoming book discussion by author Paul Nix at 6:30 p.m. on June 8. Liscomb Auxiliary holds Poppy meeting

LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on May 3 at President Sharon Hatch’s house in Whitten. Hatch opened the meeting. Chaplain pro-tem Toni Kinney gave the opening devotions. The Unit had four members present and a special guest Third District President Sandy Scallon from Ackley. A moment of silence for MIA/POW and deceased veterans was observed.
