DAR Spinning Wheel Chapter promotes importance of voting

The Spinning Wheel Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on Oct. 21 at the Marshalltown Library. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the American’s Creed. The program following the meeting was “The Importance of Voting.” Featured speakers were Marshall County Auditor/Recorder & Commissioner of Elections, Nan Benson, and Jessie Chizek, assistant auditor and Deputy of Elections. LISCOMB — Liscomb Legion Auxiliary Unit 87 met at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the home of Sharon Hatch in Whitten. Four members answered roll call. Chaplain Dorothy Sorensen gave opening devotions. Meeting was conducted by president Hatch. A moment of silence was observed for the MIA\POW and deceased veterans. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Auxiliary Preamble. The Ave Maria Study Club met In the Madonna Room at St. Henry Church on Oct. 14 starting with praying the Rosary followed by refreshments served by the hostesses, Geri Best and Betty Pieper. Legion Auxiliary concludes three busy months

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 46 have been busy the past three months. August guests were Yessenia Alvarez-Zamora and Leslie Rangel who attended this past summers Girls State. Several members helped with the Wall that Heals. The unit participated in the Oktemberfest Parade with a float and handing out 600 American flags wearing the new t-shirts. With the end of year 2022 closing in Marshalltown VFW Post 839 discussed a variety of coming projects at its Oct. 18 meeting. The dozen members in attendance eyed volunteer needs among topics. Commander Rob Shepherd reported a request for volunteers needed to assist in monthly bingo at the Iowa Veterans Home and Harry C.
