Hy-Vee Drug to close in September

T-R PHOTO BY LANA BRADSTREAM Customers come and go from the Marshalltown Hy-Vee Drugstore on Friday. The store will close and merge with the Hy-Vee grocery store in September.

The Hy-Vee Drugstore in the Meadowlane Mall on Center Street in Marshalltown will close on Sept. 27 and will merge with the pharmacy located inside the Marshalltown Hy-Vee on Sept. 28.

Christina Gayman, public relations director for Hy-Vee, said the decision was made in preparation for a full remodel of the Marshalltown Hy-Vee grocery store.

“This provided an opportunity to merge the two pharmacy locations,” she said. “The updated store will include unique food service offerings, new departments, updated signage and decor and more. We are adding an expanded candy department, a Market Grille and Mia Pizza – where customers can create their favorite pizza with fresh ingredients. We’ll bake it in a wood-fired oven in just six minutes. The convenience store is the only area that will not undergo any changes.”

Marshalltown is not the only location where a Hy-Vee Drugstore has been combined with a grocery store. On June 21, the Drugstore in Ames merged with the remodeled Lincoln Center Hy-Vee.

Gayman said the transition from Drugstore to grocery store will happen overnight for pharmacy customers, who will receive advance notice of the move with additional details.

“They should not experience any interruption in service,” she said.
