MFD battles residential fire Tuesday night — no injuries reported

On Tuesday at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to investigate smoke and the sound of alarms going off in the area of 209 ½ N. 1st St.

Upon arrival, the fire department found light smoke coming from the upper floor of a two-story residential house split up into apartments. Two small fires were located on the first floor of one of the apartments in separate rooms and were quickly extinguished. During extinguishment, the entire structure was searched. One dog was found and reunited with its owner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. Marshalltown firefighters were at the scene for approximately two hours.
