After district leadership opted to move to virtual classes on Friday due to concerns of odd smells and visible fumes related to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) wing construction project last week, Marshalltown High School (MHS) students will return to the classroom on Monday.

A press release issued Saturday indicated that further ventilation of the building and confirmation of previous tests have validated the safety of the learning environment and cleared the way for in-person instruction to resume.

“The additional tests performed on Friday, Feb. 23, further confirmed previous results that determined Marshalltown High School (to be) a safe learning environment. The Marshalltown Community School District and MHS staff appreciate the cooperation and flexibility of parents, students, teachers, technology teams, and food service staff,” the release reads. “We especially appreciate the dedication of the Marshalltown fire marshal, health agencies, and maintenance teams for further ventilating and ensuring the safety of the building. Student and staff safety and well-being is our highest priority, and we take concerns very seriously.”
