Heil is a public servant we can trust

In 2013, our Home Rental business was being put under great strain by the Iowa Department of Revenue. They did an audit on our business that stated we owed nearly $100,000 in back taxes, penalties and interest on our rental trailers. Because these were rental trailers, we applied for the use tax exemption in the Marshall County Treasurer’s Office.

The Department of Revenue changed their interpretation of the use tax exemption and never shared it with us or any other treasurers’ offices across the State of Iowa. Since there is tax collected on each rental use of the trailers, they should have been exempt from use tax, as they would be considered double taxed.

When we shared this with Jarret Heil, the Marshall County Treasurer, he went into immediate action. He was relentless with the Department of Revenue, their director, their lobbyist and the Governor’s Office.

When the Department of Revenue would not back down, Jarret went to the State Legislature representing the County Treasurers Association and got legislation passed to eliminate the double taxation. Jarret never gave up on us, even when the bureaucrats tried to ignore him and even bully him. Jarret is the guy we want representing us.

Jarret Heil is now making a change to run for a spot on the Marshall County Board of Supervisors. He needs our support and our vote on June 7 because we know he will have our backs as taxpayers. Jarret Heil is a true public servant we can trust!
