Who is Jinita Boyd, and why does she think an LGBTQ street fair event in Marshalltown reflects badly on the town? Her letter reminds me of a time when bigoted white and straight people exercised their privilege and warped religious views to banish people they hated from public view for no valid reason. Last week, we came to Marshalltown to launch our books: Geese on the Streets: Blossom and Frankie’s Love Story by Deb Elliott and Frankie and Blossom: A Honkin’ Great Love Story by K. S. Wuertz. There are many lovely stories in the Bible. In the book of Ezekiel, this priest was ordained to take a message to the kings, leaders and those speaking false words from God. Ezekiel, Jeremiah and Isaiah were contemporary preachers who God used to bring this message to a very sinful nation. 13th Street LGBT event

It has taken me a while to get the courage to respond to the July 15 TR article about the LGBT 13th Street Event. Questioning or opposing anything to do with LGBT takes one through a minefield of deep emotions which in the past has most likely erupted with the outsider being targeted for destruction or at the very least called derogatory names. I was raised by parents who were very sensitive to the emotions of other people. People were to be loved and respected and I have tried to follow that practice all my life. Thank you James Jackson for your support. However, I think Nan Benson has done a fantastic job and I do not foresee that changing. I will be voting for Nan Benson for Auditor/Recorder. I suggest that everyone else do the same.

Feenstra’s gaslighting

In the Marshalltown Times Republican Editorial Forum, Rep. Randy Feenstra has a habit of writing editorials to make it sound like he’s busy doing his job and not just collecting PAC money from Bruce Rastetter. The July 22 issue of the T-R was no exception. Instead of writing legislation about our cancer rates or our dirty rivers and lakes he’s gaslighting about voter fraud.
