Deonté Dean (pictured) and the Marshalltown High School track and field teams competed in the Class 4A state-qualifying meet on Thursday night at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Dean earned automatic qualification in two individual events and helped a Bobcat relay earn advancement as well. Dean won the 100-meter dash in 11.06 seconds, won the 200 in 21.58, and teamed with Malachi Holmes, Jaiden Buchanan and Jayzek Lee to take second place in the 4×100-meter relay in 42.99 seconds. The Bobcat girls were unable to secure any automatic qualifiers. Complete state-qualifying meet results and the official list of state qualifiers will not be made available until Friday.
