Bobcat bowlers sweep Roosevelt

DES MOINES — Marshalltown bowling entered the winter break off the back of a boys’ and girls’ sweep of Des Moines Roosevelt on Tuesday night, with the Bobcat boys’ team defeating the Roughriders 2,764-2,739 and the girls taking a 2,166-1,848 victory. MHS boys’ bowling is 5-0 and the girls’ team is 4-1.

Aaron Ratte led the Bobcats with a 205-193–398 series. Quintin Stanton was second on the team with a 175-210–385 series, closely followed by Jayden Beichley’s 184-192–376 series. Damon Borton had an off night after his perfect 300 against Ottumwa, rolling 146-201–347. He was followed by Aidan Cowan’s series of 187-151–338 as the final counting score of the day for a total of 1,884 heading into the Bakers games. With a closing score of 219 in the final game, the Bobcats were able to seal the win.

The Bobcat girls were led by senior Madison Pickett’s 162-194–357 and fellow senior Autumn Thompson’s series of 179-165-344 to set a solid base. Devin Peterson was third with 116-147–263 and Kennedy Lammert’s 152-95–247, with Sydney May putting in the final counting score of 117-121–238. Heading into the Baker games MHS had a score of 1,449.

In the Bakers, the Bobcats had one of their best outings of the year with scores of 150, 160, 127, 140 and 140 to finish off the dual with a comfortable win.

Marshalltown’s next dual after the winter break will be Jan. 3 at Waterloo West. The duals will start at 3:45 p.m. at Cadillac XBC.
