SPORTS SHORTS: Reyerson’s school-record 43 lifts Trojans to triumph
DES MOINES — Katy Reyerson racked up a school-record 43 points to propel the Class 3A No. 3 West Marshall girls’ basketball team to victory in Friday’s Heart of Iowa Conference opener, 77-30, over host Saydel.
Reyerson also had 17 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and three blocked shots as the Trojans improved to 4-0 overall.
Lily Zahnd finished with 10 points and six rebounds, Abigail Gradwell and Keatan Pfantz added six points, and Bella Borgos finished with five.
Kaydence Butters led Saydel (1-3, 0-1) with 15 points, and Brooklyn Leydens added nine points.
No. 14 DMACC pulls away from Tiger men
BOONE — Fourteenth-ranked DMACC outscored the Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team 52-32 in the second half Wednesday to secure an 83-61 victory over the visiting Tigers.
MCC (4-7) trailed by two, 31-29, before DMACC’s second-half explosion. Kwat Abdelkarim scored all of his game-high 24 points after the intermission, leading the Bears (9-2) to triumph. Cael McGeen pitched in 12 points off the bench and Jaron Crews scored 11 points for DMACC.
Trey Sinegal scored a team-high 16 points for MCC. Tyler Burrows contributed 10 points, and Gedeon Shango finished with seven points. Zion Obanla added six points and a team-leading seven rebounds, but the Tigers got trampled on the boards, 45-29.
