MHS bowlers fall at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown High School bowling teams suffered losses on the same night for the first time this season, both falling to Fort Dodge in an Iowa Alliance Conference dual Monday at the Family Bowling Center.

The Bobcat girls held a narrow 29-pin lead after individual play — 1,443-1,414 — but couldn’t complete the feat in Baker games. Fort Dodge found the touch and outscored Marshalltown by 87 points in Bakers — 796-709 — and the Dodgers (6-0, 6-0) remained unbeaten with a 2,210-2,152 victory.

Marshalltown (5-2, 3-2) was led individually by Madison Pickett, who posted a consistent pair of games for a 173-178–351 series. Autumn Thompson was close behind with her 157-186–343, finishing third overall. Katelyn Schwartz (125-157–282), Devin Peterson (141-126–267) and Kenedy Lammert (94-106–200) rounded out the individual scoring for MHS.

Gabby Flores led Fort Dodge with a 197-169–365 series.

The Bobcat boys’ loss was even more heartbreaking, suffering a 37-pin setback — 2,975-2,938. Marshalltown (5-2, 4-1) trailed by 48 pins after individual play but rallied back in Baker games, falling just short despite a 972-960 advantage in the team event.

Marshalltown senior Damon Borton led all players with his 246-215–461 series, but Fort Dodge (5-1, 4-1) had four of the next five best scores on the night.

It was a tale of two games for most of the Marshalltown lineup. Jayden Beichley had his high game and series scores for the season, rolling 168-232–400 to be the Bobcats’ next best finisher. Aaron Ratte came through with a 224-162–386, followed by Aiden Cowan (143-227–370) and Quentin Stanton (142-207–349).

The Bobcat bowlers are back at home on Jan. 17, hosting Des Moines Lincoln.

Starting at $4.38/week.
