GMG’s Woodbury a four-time all-conference honoree

The Iowa Star Conference’s South Division won’t look the same next season without GMG senior Jabari Woodbury in it.

Woodbury was named all-conference for the fourth time in a vote of the league’s coaches, representing the GMG boys basketball team on the first team for the second year in a row.

Woodbury was one of three Marshalltown-area selections on the first team, joined by BCLUW senior Cael Keller and North Tama junior Josh Dostal.

Woodbury was a two-time second-team selection and is now twice a first-teamer. This winter, Woodbury ranked in the top-six in four statistical categories during Iowa Star South action. He was third in scoring average (17.1 points), sixth in rebounding (6.9), fifth in assists (4.0) and second in steals (4.1).

Keller was promoted from the second team to the first team in BCLUW’s second season in the league after averaging 15.7 points per game to lead the Comets. Keller, who was honorable mention all-NICL West during his sophomore season, ranked fourth in the Iowa Star South in scoring average, seventh in assists (3.5), and fifth in steals (2.5).

Dostal also made the move up from the second team, helping to lead North Tama by finishing sixth in scoring average (15.2) and seventh in rebounding (6.8).

North Tama’s Ryan Ridout was named the division’s Coach of the Year. Conference Player of the Year Treyton Travis of Baxter, a senior guard, led the league scoring 25.0 points per game.

Second-team honors went to North Tama senior guard Jared Dvorak and GMG sophomore guard Rider Kupka. Dvorak averaged 12.0 points and a team-high 4.3 assists per game, ranking him third in the league, while Kupka put up 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Wolverines.

Honorable mention selection went to BCLUW senior forward Hayden Schleisman, GMG senior guard Kaleb Gill, North Tama sophomore guard Kayler Morris, and Meskwaki junior Kingston Davenport.
