SPORTS SHORTS: STC netters eliminated by Stormin’ Pointers
CENTER POINT — The South Tama volleyball team was unable to overtake its WaMaC Conference foe in the first round of Class 3A regional play, falling 3-0 to Center Point-Urbana in Tuesday’ Region 5 opener, 25-10, 25-16, 25-11.
The Trojans (13-20) were led by sophomore Paisley Bro with nine kills in the finale. Janette Cervantes, a senior, tacked on four kills. Senior setter Skyla Beck finished with 17 assists.
Bro was STC’s top defender as well, making eight digs, while Beck added six digs in defeat. Rylee Ridout and Keinzle Boriskey combined for the Trojans’ only block.
STC senior Madison Wiese was the team’s top server, going 8-for-10 with an ace, while Cailey Brown was 6-for-7 with an ace.
Center Point-Urbana (19-12) had a balanced attack led by Maya Burkhart and Adelyn Stien with seven kills apiece.
East Marshall volleyball wiped out by Waterloo Columbus
WATERLOO — The East Marshall volleyball team suffered season-ending defeat in the opening round of Class 2A Region 4 play, falling 3-0 to Waterloo Columbus on Monday night.
The host Sailors (12-25) claimed the sweep by scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-21.
Leading East Marshall (9-29) ws Marisa Cahalan and Cora Talbert with three kills apiece. Sophomore setter Mya Gould had six assists and led the defense with 10 digs. Bailey Grant added eight digs and Vaeda Bryan had six more.
Mylie Rasmusson led the Mustangs at the service line, going 12-for-12 with one ace. Grant was 6-for-8 with two aces, Bryan was 7-for-10 with two aces, and Gould was 8-for-9 with one ace.
Ella Paul led Waterloo Columbus with 11 kills and Macey O’Brien had 10.
