SPORTS SHORTS: Comets overwhelm Mustang girls

LE GRAND — The BCLUW girls’ basketball team held East Marshall to 14-percent shooting in a 59-22 victory over the Mustangs on Friday night.

Klayre Gallentine sank three 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 18 points to pace the Comets (4-2). She also had eight rebounds.

Grace Farnsworth finished with 14 points and two blocked shots, and Savannah Moeller had eight points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Brinna Benson added six points and five steals, and Raegan Crawford had five points and three steals.

Ashtyn Wheater and Alivia Neuroth led East Marshall (2-5) with five points apiece. Sydney Hull, Delaney Ryan and Makayla Hala added three points each.

Bear’s triple-double powers Meskwaki girls

COLO — Meskwaki sophomore Dorothy Bear had a triple-double and the Warrior girls’ basketball team topped Colo-NESCO 49-22 on Friday night.

Bear finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals to lead Meskwaki (1-2) to its first victory. Dayeci Davenport added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Sophie Shuckahosee chipped in with 11 points.

Abigail Kettwig led Colo-NESCO (0-5) with eight points and nine rebounds.

STC girls succumb to another ranked foe

MANCHESTER — The South Tama girls’ basketball team fell to another ranked foe, losing 55-13 to Class 3A No. 10 West Delaware on Friday night.

The Trojans were defeated by 3A No. 13 Center Point-Urbana earlier in the week, 75-13, before suffering a similar fate on Friday.

Dyan Keahna scored nine of STC’s 13 points go to with four steals to lead the Trojans (1-5). Rylee Ridout and Azalee Morgan pitched in with two points apiece.

Brooke Krogmann led West Delaware (4-1) with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

Spartans remain unbeaten by taming Tigers

ELDORA — Judd Jirovsky led four double-digit scorers as the Grundy Center boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten with a 63-42 win over South Hardin in Friday’s NICL West Division clash.

Jirovsky also had six assists for the Spartans (3-0, 2-0), who led 34-19 at the half. Jalen Kirkpatrick had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Brayden Davie scored 13 points off the bench. Ryker Thoren tallied 10 points.

Rebels rough up AGWSR in NICL West play

REINBECK — Brandon Mathern made four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points to lead the Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ basketball team to a 63-29 triumph over AGWSR in Friday’s NICL West Division matchup.

Drew Eilers had 14 points and nine rebounds, and Michael Boyd finished with 14 points and seven boards for the Rebels (2-1, 1-1). Austen Mathern and Hudson Clark added seven points apiece, and Trevor Mathern pitched in with five points and six steals off the bench.

Bolts’ Dee drops 50 on GMG boys

BAXTER — Baxter junior Eli Dee scored a state-leading 50 points as the Bolts beat the GMG boys’ basketball team 87-67 in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division clash.

Dee shot 20-for-39 from the field and 7-of-10 at the free-throw line, adding three 3-pointers to go with nine steals for the Bolts (5-0).

Colin Teske made six 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 24 points to lead GMG (1-4). He shot 9-of-15 from the field and 6-of-8 from 3-point range, but the Wolverines’ defense was roughed up again. GMG ranks 125th out of 144 Class 1A teams by allowing 69 points per game.

Grady Dieleman added 18 points, Rider Kupka had 10 points and four blocked shots, and Ethan Klemesrud contributed nine points and nine rebounds.
