‘Murder of Anna Weiss’ at Retired School Personnel

The Marshall County Retired School Personnel met at 1 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Fisher Community Center. President Carole Permar introduced Ted Kamatchus who presented the program telling about the “Murder of Anna Weiss,” a cold case from 1893 that had occurred nine miles northeast of Marshalltown. The case was never solved. Kamatchus presented information and slides about the case. The meeting was called to order by Permar. TTT Chapter ET selects two campers

Two Marshalltown girls who will complete fourth grade this spring have been chosen as 2020 TTT Campers by members of Iowa ET, the National TTT Society. Margaret Johnson, camp co-chair, noted that she, Susan Baker and Karen Colwell, had already met with the girls and their families and initial steps are already being taken to prepare the girls for a week this summer at the Des Moines YMCA Camp. Marshalltown VFW eyes building faults

Upkeep of building facilities at Veterans of Foreign Wars quarters at 107 E. Meadow Lane was among topics during the Feb. 18 meeting. Fundraising for fixing mold and water leakage faults, suggested by Rick Johnson, were public fish fries on March 27, April 10 and April 24, also potential tip nights at Culver’s and Taco Johns. Matins hear about Highways 14, 30 projects

Program Host Andy Schwandt introduced Tony Gustafson who is the assistant highway traffic engineer for the 12 counties in central Iowa. He informed the Matins that Highway 14 north of Marshalltown will be closed for 60 days this summer as the deeper ditches, widened shoulders and new concrete overlay will be completed. Highway 30 east of Tama will soon complete the grading for the new four-lane on the north side of the existing highway and will start pouring concrete this summer with new ramps for the Highway 21 intersection at a cost of $6 million per mile.
