CONRAD — The Conrad American Legion Auxiliary Unit #681 met at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Conrad Legion Hall. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Veronica Daniel with 12 present. Following opening exercises, Secretary Sarah Kitzman read the Roll Call of Officers answered by four, read the minutes of the January meeting, gave a penny march/card report and read several excepts from Auxiliary minutes from 1948 and 1950 in recognition of the 100th year as Auxiliary. Central Chapter #67, O.E.S. will hold a vote to make changes to the by-laws of the Chapter including the change of meeting day, time and vacation months at the 7:30 p.m. meeting on Tuesday.

History of Meskwaki people presented at Rotary

Tom McCoy, Bonnie Lowry, Sue Martin, Bob Moore and Zach Tomesch all had guests for the Feb. 25 version of the Marshalltown Rotary luncheon. Marshalltown Police Department officer Andy Cole was on hand to give a recap of the “Shop with a Cop” program and thanked the Rotary Club for its support. ‘Quilts – Tree of Life’ program at Sew-ciety

The Central Iowa Quilt Sew-ciety will meet Tuesday for its regular monthly meeting at Trinity Lutheran Church. The group is excited to have Valorie Bonk, AQS certified quilt appraiser, as the guest speaker. Bonk will present a trunk show with old and new quilts relating to trees and how they have changed over time. She will be sharing where the tree designs came from, when the earliest pieced tree quilts were found, who designed them and why they are important. Chapter JU hears program on Martha-Ellen Tye

Twenty-five members of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met Feb. 3 at Glenwood Place to enjoy dessert and a presentation by Karn Gregoire about Martha-Ellen Tye, a former Chapter JU member. She detailed the influence Martha-Ellen had on the Marshalltown Community in the past and how it continues to this day. President Marlys Smith conducted a short business meeting during which a slate of officers for the coming year was presented and approved.
