Chapter BB meets at Mowry Irvine Mansion

P.E.O. Chapter BB of Marshalltown held its regular business meeting on Feb. 3. Michelle Rosenburrough hosted the meeting at the Mowry Irvine Mansion with the assistance of Carol Terry, Kathy Beane and Julie Hitchens. There was plenty of business to cover including a reading of Sylvia Lowrance’s presidents letter highlighting this last year of her presidency. Rotary hears how to beat winter blues

“How you think plus how feel equal how you act.” That was the message Dr. Paul Daniel began his remarks to Rotary with on the subject of mental health issues during the club’s Feb. 11 meeting. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a form of depression that is more pronounced in the northern regions due to lack of sunshine. With 27 years of mental health experience in Marshalltown, Daniel’s observations confirm an upward trend of estimates that 25 percent of us are affected. Twenty-one members of Chapter JU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met Jan. 20 to enjoy brunch and celebrate Founders’ Day at the Village Cooperative. Hostess Kirstan Condit and the tea committee members of Nancy Hartliep, Emily Osmundson, Bonnie Herbold and Karen Bursley made and served the delicious brunch. Dean of U of I Law College visits Rotary

Kevin Washburn, Dean at the University of Iowa Law College was the featured program at the Tuesday version of the Marshalltown Rotary luncheon. Mark Osmundson and Tom McCoy introduced guests. While allowing that lawyers are not always popular, Washburn began by a humorous argument that America loves lawyers. The strong rule of law in this country has helped ensure we have the strongest economy in the world. More than half of the U.S. presidents were attorneys, as is over half of the U.S. Senate. ISU student athlete program at Rotary

Student athlete development at Iowa State University was the topic of the Marshalltown Rotary Club’s Jan. 21 luncheon meeting. Assistant Athletics Director Amber Giese oversees a department of 10 that works with more than 450 student athletes. She offered a glimpse of a recruiting message that highlights the university class sizes and student/faculty ratio.
